Summer is officially in full swing, and I’ve been trying to savor every second of the long, warm days. I’m making an effort to slow down and enjoy the moment because in a blink of an eye, it will again be winter, and we’ll be yearning for the summer sun once again.

Anywho, to celebrate the season, I thought we could whip up these scrumptious frozen blackberry margaritas. I’ve been making them for years, and they are a hit every single time.

Blackberries are my all-time favorite berry. While you may already be familiar with enjoying them as-is, or in a blackberry pie or blackberry cobbler, you are missing out big time if you aren’t trying them blended with tequila! 😉

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • EASY – making this blackberry margarita recipe is as easy as adding ingredients to a blender and tapping a button.
  • QUICK – if you have a few minutes, you can easily whip together this margarita.
  • DELICIOUS – this is a goldilocks co*cktail for me. It’s not overly sweet, and it’s not super sour. It has just the right amount of tart to counterbalance the sweetness.

Ingredients

Mixing up these delicious co*cktails only requires a few ingredients. If you have a decently stocked bar, you likely already have a lot of these on hand!

  • Frozen blackberries – the frozen texture is what gives this marg an extra frosted texture.
  • Honey – by using honey instead of sugar, the drink gets a lovely, layered flavor.
  • Tequila – Jose Cuervo is my go-to brand. It’s a mid-point tequila that is smooth, but not overly expensive. That being said, use whatever you have on hand.
  • Orange liqueur – Cointreau is what I recommend, but again, use what you have!
  • Lime juice – I highly recommend you use freshly squeezed lime juice rather than the stuff out of a bottle. There’s a time and place for fresh lime juice, and this is it. It really does make a difference.
  • Ice
  • Salt

Recipe Notes and Tips

In addition to the fabulous flavor, they’re so easy to make. Just place everything in a blender, pulse until smooth, and pour!

I like to serve these with salt on the rim and a few frozen blackberries and a lime wedge for garnish.

However, straight out of the blender, sans garnish, is equally good.

You’ll want to rim the glass before you pour the blackberry margarita in.

To rim the glass, you’ll need a bowl or plate that’s slightly bigger than your glass. Pour kosher salt onto the bowl or plate in an even layer.

Then, grab a lime wedge and cut a small slit in it so it can sit on the glass rim. Then slide the lime around the glass to cover the edge with a bit of moisture.

Invert your glass onto the plate and slowly turn it so the salt coats the rim evenly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do you need orange liqueur in this margarita?

You may be surprised by this, but building a perfect marg is actually all about balancing flavor and notes. Cointreau adds just the right amount of sweet and slightly bitter flavors that counterbalance the sweetness of the blackberries and honey.

It’s a must-have for any margarita recipe, as well as other co*cktails such as Cosmopolitans.

Can I substitute fresh blueberries for frozen ones?

The frozen blackberries are what help to give the margarita that frosty texture. You can replicate it by using fresh blackberries and a handful of ice, but you’ll want to be careful not too add too much ice or the drink will become a bit watery.
