Last July, I had the honor of attending the RSM Excellence Academy in Chicago, Illinois. Out of the 500 applicants that applied, only 101 were selected. Despite the short duration of the program, the lessons I've learned throughout the event have prepared me for success in my future internship and the upcoming school year. During the program, I had the opportunity to network and connect with seasoned RSM professionals and interns to gain insights on the next steps to take in my corporate journey and tips to adhere by in order to become the best version of myself. Being able to listen to Katie Carabeo, CPA's panel talk about auditing and how a firm investigates the accuracy of the claims of their clients furthered my understanding of how auditing works as I prepare to take my first accounting course this autumn. Additionally, speaking with RSM interns eased my concerns about starting my first internship, reassuring me that the firm’s training is robust and supportive. A quote from one of the panelist that stuck with me was “The team will be more annoyed if you sit there stuck rather than asking questions.” Kaplan Mobray's seminar on “excellence is a choice” was another highlight. His advice to “make a lasting impression beyond your name” underscored the importance of meaningful networking. His words have motivated me to nurture the connections I make, ensuring they are substantive rather than superficial. The RSM excellence academy has been an enlightening experience which has been one of the main highlights of my summer. A special thanks to all the RSM staff and interns who gave up their time to make the week such a great success. A special thanks to Daniel Booth for helping me to navigate the process of applying and to RSM US LLP for investing in my future!

This week, I had the honor of representing The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business at the PwC Career Fair Preview event in Orlando, Florida! I immersed myself in insightful discussions with fellow students and PwC mentors about potential careers in accounting, including tax, audit, and consulting. What started as a limited understanding of the different routes in accounting has now evolved into a solid foundation thanks to the seminars led by seasoned PwC professionals. Their expertise not only enhanced my interviewing skills, but also empowered me to navigate the challenges of being a minority in a predominantly white profession and step out of my comfort zone in order to become a better version of myself. This experience has truly fortified my confidence to pursue a fulfilling career in accounting. A special thanks to PwC for hosting us at the beautiful Walt Disney Floridian Resort, my mentor Asia Brown for the invaluable guidance she provided, and my supportive teammates Jacob Pumphrey, Andrea Monroy, Grace Zaucha, Michael Macias, Zoe Velazquez, and Anusha V. I also extend my gratitude to my college recruiter Christine Tavanello for introducing me to this incredible opportunity. I am extremely grateful for the experience and plan on using the knowledge I have gained for years to come!
